Make Cadillac Great Again: A Rant
Modern Cadillacs look like BMW clones. When did they abandon their identity? Car manufacturers have forgotten what made them special.
Overview
I saw a bright blue Cadillac V on the road today and had to pull over to rant. When did Cadillac become a BMW M3 clone? As someone who has owned Cadillacs from 1972, 1983, and 1992, I remember when they had their own identity—the land yacht, the classic GM feel, that Cadillac ride. Now they’re chasing the young crowd with rebadged BMWs, and there’s not a single car under $100,000 that excites me anymore. This is my plea: please make Cadillac great again.

I want to talk about something really quick that just came to mind. I was just driving home and I saw this bright blue Cadillac—it’s a brand new Cadillac, very sporty. It’s one of those Cadillac V models, like the new ones. It’s probably like a four-cylinder with like four turbos or something.
But what came to mind was that the car industry has essentially just ignored car lovers. There are no cars that I’m actually craving right now that are under $100,000. The fact that Cadillac right now builds essentially a BMW M3 clone, sticks a V on it and a twin-turbo V6 or something, and then calls it a Cadillac is just insane.
I was looking at the rims on the Cadillac and it just looks like a rebadged Honda Civic or a rebadged BMW M3. At this point, the M3 might actually feel more like a Cadillac than the actual Cadillac.
The only reason that I’m sharing this is because I have Cadillacs. I love classic Cadillacs. I’ve had a Cadillac from 1972, 1983, 1992—they all felt like Cadillacs. But Cadillac has been doing this since the early ’90s with their little tiny front-wheel-drive Cadillacs and things. I had one of those—I think it was a Seville—but even that still had the classic GM feel to it, and all the reliability issues that come with it.
But I just wish that there was a car maker that would think about us. You know, the only ones that I see—the only cars that I see that are still kind of giving us that nice feeling of the land yacht type of vibe—are these BMW 7 Series, or the… I don’t even know if that’s even a thing anymore, or the Mercedes-Benz, like the bigger ones. But again, you’re talking about $70,000, $80,000, $100,000 for a car.
GM can create not only a sporty Cadillac but an actual nice Cadillac that is not like an SUV. I’m even thinking about, should I get an Escalade? Is the Escalade the only Cadillac that is left that has that nice ride? Or maybe I’m just not aware of all the options. I should look up to see, you know, does Cadillac still have a Cadillac that I would actually consider worthy of the name?
Even the early CTS-Vs, they were kind of cool, I gotta admit. They were kind of cool. But these new ones, I’m telling you, they just look like a rebadged BMW.
I kind of like even what Lincoln has been doing with their long cars with the suicide doors, but even that is like a special price for a special car. I don’t know, I’m just rambling right now because I’m just so upset with Cadillac for letting me down personally.
I just wish they would build a nice big boss Cadillac again, like something straight out of the ’70s but with 2024-2025 vibes—the modern retro-mod. I saw a Bronco today, and I have another little short video which looked like a Bronco from the 1960s. It had the baby blue color and everything. I’m thinking, I wish more classics were brought to life with that mindset. It’s just something that I think is still not being exploited.
I just, as a car lover, I just want to see some of the things that I grew up with with a modern style. It’s just a little ask. Make Cadillac great again, I guess.
Yeah, just let me know what you think, and thanks for listening to my little rant. I got a little bit upset when I saw like a rebadged BMW M3 with a Cadillac logo on it. I wish I would have taken a picture to show you guys, but it is what it is. Alright, till next time, bye.
