Waking up my Cadillac Eldorado after a year of rest
After sitting covered for a year, it's time to see if this 507ci V8 Cadillac still fires up.
I pulled the cover off my Cadillac Eldorado after a full year of storage and got to work. The oil was good, maybe even overfilled which meant it was touching the bottom of the crankshaft. The aftermarket radiator had developed a leak, and some rust formed from water that got under the cover during the rainy season. After disconnecting the coil to prevent ignition, I cranked the engine to build oil pressure with a charged battery from 2018. When I reconnected everything and sprayed starting fluid into the carburetor, the big-block fired right up. The coolant looked a bit milky at first, but the oil was clean. I drained and refilled the coolant, added power steering fluid to stop the whining, cleaned the exterior, and prepped the interior. The Eldorado is back among the living.
