Ford Jayco RV maintenance marathon
I took on multiple maintenance jobs on my 1995 Ford Jayco RV. First, I removed the extremely rusty battery holder, cleaned it with a grinder, and treated it with rust converter before reinstalling two batteries. Then I tackled a loud rattling noise that appeared under load. After cleaning out a nest from the air filter area and replacing spark plugs, I discovered the real culprit: a cracked exhaust manifold gasket. The bolts were surprisingly loose, which meant someone had been here before. I replaced it with a copper gasket for better sealing. The old spark plugs were soaked with fuel, suggesting poor combustion, so I also replaced the distributor cap and rotor which were heavily deposited. Between the new Iridium plugs, fresh wires, and the manifold gasket, the engine should run much cleaner now.
